Course / Course Details
Research Support (RS) and Knowledge Exchange (KE) Professionals who are transitioning or intend to transition onto IP commercialisation roles within Research Support Office (RSO) or Technology Transfer Office (TTO) of a University often struggle to prepare Self alongside their current roles due to lack of mentors in guiding on IP exploitations aspect.
Such a situation faced by budding IP Commercialisation Professionals is partly due to the lack of training courses created with ‘an easy way of correlating the IP commercialisation course-contents to the existing background knowledge of KE professionals’ and ‘direct usability of the taught IP commercialisation skills/knowledge in a University environment (instead of being trained to be an IP Expert or IP Lawyer)’.
Individuals in Research Support (RS) and Knowledge Exchange (KE) support roles can learn how to become effective IP Commercialisation Professionals within the University environment by attending this intensive 1-day course. This course intends to demystify the IP basics of how to support a research/commercialisation project from the aspects of both IP Management and IP Exploitation (by building upon existing skills/experience of an individual in research support and knowledge exchange roles).
A professional staff in a TTO or a relevant ‘research and knowledge exchange support office’ of a University is usually required to advise a researcher/academic on ‘what comprises background and foreground IPs in a research project or grant proposal’, ‘how to identify relevant market/customer segments appropriate for the research idea/IP from exploitation aspect’, ‘how to identify existing prior arts for the consideration of IP protection and competitors’, ‘what support activities may be needed from the initial idea disclosure till the end point of securing a licence or spinout formation’, ‘basics of contractual terms adopted in licensing and spinout agreements’, and ‘engaging potential licensees and investors relevant to the University IPs’.
