Project Internships: What’s Available & For Whom?
Individuals interested to learn IP Commercialisation courses in a hands-on approach by working on a real-world project can opt for an immersive internship under an experienced Innovation Consultant ONLINE across a few weeks' tenure (e.g. 5-week, 10-week). Though trainees can learn informative skills and knowledge from an instructor by attending a LIVE class or Online course, there is always a time-constraint on the trainee to comprehend 'lots of taught info' during the short teaching session of the instructor. Trainees also often find a gap between having learnt a skill and delivering a task using the learnt skill. There is no better way for imbibing a skill by a learner through executing hands-on of what is being learnt on a real-world project.
Through a pre-internship kick-off meeting, the intern will be provided an overview briefing of what to expect during the internship tenure and the basics of tools and frameworks to be used during the internship tenure will be taught. The intern will be asked to do an assigned task weekly to 'explore and analyse certain problems/topics on own and the output drafts completed by the intern will be discussed with an Innovation Consultant (from IP2Impact Ltd) in the following week (via a weekly catch-up call, that may last up-to 2hr max). As the intern progresses through weeks of the internship tenure, the intern would have worked hard towards preparing the final deliverables reports/outputs. The weekly catch-up call is an opportunity for the intern to get 'doubts clarified' from the expertise of the Innovation Consultant. The learning experience of the internship and the final outputs delivered will be almost like the way how professional consultants deliver outputs/reports for a client.
It is likely that few Interns may wish to attend a relevant Self-Study Course or a LIVE Class (available in this website) prior to attend a specific Project Internship as a way of acquiring/tasting the learning materials on the taught-theme. Intern may either proposed an actual project of theirs or a sample real-world project for undertaking the Project Internship. Though Researchers and Founders do have the option to avail 'readymade inputs and analysed reports' for easy consumption directly from External Consultants and Professional Support Staffs in their employer organisations', it is essential for themselves to learn the basic principles and tools of how to do the tasks of creating those inputs and analysis reports. Such a learning will enable the researchers and founders to apply their will and direction of travel on the way of how their projects are moving forward. Moreover, they will be able to lead on their projects with confidence instead being led by consultants/support-staffs.
The learning experienced provided through this Project Internship is comparable to the experience received by a researcher or a founder or a budding innovation support professional through 'undertaking an accelerator programme', at the fraction of time and at the convenience of the intern (as this internship is planned around the availability of the intern).
Note-1: Employers/Institutions can also sponsor their staffs (e.g. Researcher, Academic, Research Support and Knowledge Exchange Professional) to undertake this Project Internship for an appropriate topic/theme. This internship is like a direct 'teaching and mentoring' scheme towards delivering a high quality output on a real-world project at a fraction of the price usually paid to an external consultant for the outputs.
